(Real) Irish traditional music from Norwegian accordion player.
Life sometimes moves in mysterious ways.
After several years of music studies in his native Norway, Anders Lillebo pictured himself chasing a career as a jazz pianist. A chance visit to a traditional music festival in Ireland, however, changed everything. Almost overnight, Anders fell head over heels in love with the island’s music, bought himself an accordion, and put jazz on hiatus.
Some years later, after several long stays in Ireland, made up of countless nights of jam sessions and frightening numbers of stouts and ales, Anders is currently making a name for himself as a gifted player within the genre.
Departure is Anders’ debut as a recording artist. The album is recorded on the west coast of Ireland, in collaboration with producer Jack Talty and a handful of prodigious Irish musicians. Additionally, one of Scandinavia’s foremost performers in the Irish tradition, Esbjörn Hazelius, also participates. The album consists mainly of music taken from the Irish traditional music repertory, but watch out for a couple of original compositions as well!
Departure is released on Just for the Records on September 1st.
